Led by exhibiting artists Khushboo and Christie Swallow, facilitated by curator Gina DeCagna
Join us for a guided walk around historic Richmond from One Paved Court, where we’ll explore some key sites of local history and heritage as well as observe the fauna, flora and animals of the area – including the wild parakeets celebrated in artist Christie Swallow’s patchwork quilted work, displayed in the gallery’s ground-floor window.
Throughout our walk together, we’ll find a variety of interesting textures to complete rubbings from, using colourful papers and pencils. Then, after recording these different ‘found’ textures from our walk, we’ll return to the gallery to begin a process of mapping and collaging a new collaborative journey, using these textures.
One theme in our current exhibition is the ability of our artists to build their unique worldviews from combinations of lived experience, environments or places, and the narratives or counter-narratives these all hold. Some of the works on display explore a durational world-building process through tactile language that is keenly felt.
This walk and workshop will enable us to use such tactile techniques to collaboratively build something anew.
Please Note: We will spend approximately 1 hour walking and completing rubbings of different textures; then 1 hour inside the gallery creating and mapping together. To prepare for the walk, please wear comfortable footwear and warm clothes; please also bring an umbrella, should it begin to rain. If there is inclement weather, we will use alternative textured papers inside the gallery.
Please email palimpsestprojects@gmail.com with any accessibility requirements; we will be very glad to accommodate your participation.
